How to Travel when you're Pregnant
So you're expecting! Congratulations. But as you're a seasoned traveller and can't stay still more than 2 months in a row, how are you supposed to stay still for 9 months? Just because you're pregant, doesn't mean you should stop travelling altogether. So we've put some tips to make sure you're good to go when you travel.
1. Keep up to date with your health checks
Make sure your doctor is happy and comfortable with you travelling. Every woman and every pregnancy is different so it's really important to make sure you're healthy and fit to fly. Of course, your doctor will also be able to advise you what to take when you do travel, especially in terms of medication.
2. Buy Travel Insurance and read the fine-print
Make sure you tell your travel advisor at Charlotte Travel if you're pregnant and require travel insurance. We're qualified to sell you insurance, just make sure you read through the fine-print so you know which policy covers you. Some insurance policies may not cover women in certain stages of their pregnancies so be sure to check! Make sure you pack your medical notes as well - just in case!
3. Check with your Travel Advisorto see what the 'Pregnant Women' policy is
Some airlines require fit-to-fly certificates from doctors, especially if you're in your third trimester. Some airlines also have restrictions for long-haul and short-haul flights so make sure you let your Charlotte Travel Travel Advisor know what stage you're in so we can check to see if you're allowed to fly.
4. Drink plenty of fluids & invest in a good pair of compression socks
Once you're onboard, make sure you keep yourself hydrated. Planes are dry anyway but you don't need your little one feeling dry too. Invest in a good pair of compression socks so your feet aren't the size of rugby balls once you land.
5. Choose your destination wisely
Try to pick somewhere close to home so you won't be stuck in a flying tube for too many hours. Being pregnant, you're not going to enjoy much walking around, shopping or going off the beaten track so pick somewhere relaxing. We'd suggest relaxing in your private villa at Trisara, Phuketor Amanusa, Bali.
6. Pack wisely
Being pregnant means you want to stay comfortable so make sure you bring comfortable shoes. Flats and flip flops are perfect especially if you're going for a beach holiday. If you're going to be away for longer than a week make sure you pack clothes that will fit your growing bump.
7. Appreciate and understand the local culture
Different cultures and different people react to pregnant women differently. If you're not the type to enjoy the attention, try not to get too embarrassed or defensive of people addressing your bump. People love pregnant women especially in Mediterranean countries. You'll be offered seats, given extra care and generally be the center of attention.
8. Relax and enjoy your pregnancy
The best way to completely immerse yourself in your pregnancy and enjoy the time you have with your bump really is to go on holiday, away from your everyday duties. Spend quiet time on the beach with a good book and let your partner do all the work!
